Sharese Martin Healing Rivers Counseling

Dr. Sharese Martin

PhD, LPC

I’m Dr. Sharese Martin, and I enjoy helping people heal, grow, and thrive.

Clients can interpret, influence, and create events that will resolve their problems and add meaning to their lives with my assistance as a counselor. In addition, clients have the power to manage their behaviors, thoughts, and feelings. As a counselor, I aim to develop within clients a greater self-awareness through their perceptions of life experiences that will build confidence, create change, and provide them with a greater capacity to navigate the complex challenges of life effectively.

Encouragement is vital to individuals making appropriate choices to enrich their lives. Thus, my techniques include but are not limited to Adlerian techniques and cognitive-behavioral therapies. Occasionally other approaches will be used as needed. Even when meeting with an individual, I incorporate the entire family when appropriate and possible.

In searching for options, you have made an essential step towards improving your life and those in your area of concern. Allow me to encourage you to progress in your counseling journey equipped with beneficial resources and tools. You are not alone. Let us develop and grow your vision together.

Counseling Biography

Dr. Sharese Martin began her counseling journey at the age of twelve after witnessing community and family violence resulting from untreated mental health issues and substance abuse. Inspired by childhood traumas of her own, Dr. Martin started seeking answers to problems that existed in her immediate community and later realized that opportunities for reeducation and encouragement existed through the field of counseling.

Dr. Martin believes that reeducation is a life-long process and should respond to one’s season of life. She has served clients of all ages and from various backgrounds. As a therapist, Dr. Martin assumes a holistic and humanist approach that is also influenced by Bronfenbrenner’s Ecological Systems Theory. She considers a range of influences such as: (1) the client’s own motivation and biological environment; (2) the client’s immediate surroundings including his/her family; and (3) the client’s interactions within larger environmental systems consisting of society and culture.

Dr. Martin completed her Doctorate in Counselor Education with an emphasis on autism spectrum disorders and other developmental disabilities at Sam Houston State University in 2016. She received her master’s degree in Counseling at Prairie View A&M University in 2006. She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Education in 1997 from Texas Southern University.
